Sometimes when trying to open PDF files in Google Chrome, they will not display correctly.  This is actually the intended behavior in Chrome.  The technical reason is something along the lines of Chrome will not preview any document that has what it considers to be active content.  Luckily, Adobe Reader will open any and all PDF files (for the most part) as that is the only job that it is designed to do.  The problem is that Chrome will, by default, hijack Adobe Reader's job.  There is a fix.  The fix is to make Google Chrome use the System Viewer for PDF files which simply means Let Adobe Reader do its job.

The following articles shows in clear steps how to enable or disable the System Viewer for PDF files in Chrome.  Follow the link and look for Method Two.
